Fish Where the Fish Are!

In a recent coaching meetup, my client asked me “Lyn, where do you think I should advertise – newspaper, radio, TV, online marketing…?”

As you can imagine as a Marketing and Biz coach, I get asked this – a lot!

Now I’m no ‘all-knowing fancy pants guru’ but I’ve been around a while and my answer is the same to every business owner…

Ya gotta fish where the fish are!

Find out where your clients, customers and prospects go to get their info.

And voila… advertise there!

So, if your market base still watches regular tv – advertise there.

If they read the newspaper (does anyone still do that?) then advertise there.

If they’re hanging out on social media sites and surfing the web, then go there.

If you dont know where your prospects get their info… then it’s time to find out.

Don’t advertise anywhere until you do…

We call that ‘spraying and praying’ and is a huge money drain…

SO whaddya do …?

You ask them.

Send your clients/customers a survey via e-mail or phone them and get a sampling of how they found you and where they go to get their info.

Advertising your services in places where your prospects and customers don’t hang out… is a big waste of moolah.

Next – your advert, in whatever form it takes, is the bait.

You can chuck a bucketfull of bait around and it likely will get seen – but whatabout getting a bite ?

It’s a pretty complex process eh?

You have to position yourself in the right fishing spot, use the kind of bait that your prospects will respond to using an attractive hook that reels them in…
